The un-Autism Friendly Aquarium Worker

Okay, If you are miserable and hate children, why would you take a job that deals with children. I mean there are places that you can work like THE POST OFFICE or DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES or even THE BANK. We expect you to hate children or just people in general. But when you decide to take your Autistic children to the aquarium, the last thing that you want to find is a spokes person for the Sea Turtles that doesn't want children to be excited and happy. Once again because my children look completely normal and healthy, they are expected to act like a STEPFORD child. Sole love Sea Turtles. She carries a little plastic one that she got from a DIEGO toy. She loves it, she bathes with it, she shares her food with it and most of all she sleeps with it. So, when she got and eye full of the live Sea Turtles swimming in the big aquarium, she COULD NOT SIT DOWN. She let out squeals of joy, she danced, she spun around in a circle for 5 minutes, she skipped, she kissed the glass and the turtle loved her. You can see in this picture that the attraction was mutual. She had found her first love at 4 years old and then the trouble started. The unhappy worker could not hear herself talk with the competition of Sole's joy. Then it happened. The lady asked her to sit down. Okay sitting down seems like an easy task unless you are a high functioning Autistic (and a turtle lover) So, we were forced to move on. When we first got to the turtle exhibit there was a man and his wife and a couple kids. Sole let out a squeal of joy and he stood up and said "I have to get out of here, I'm getting a migraine from that kid. My friend Julie followed him and proceeded to tell him that Sole was Autistic and if her mother could have found a way to keep her quiet she would have. She said it is unfair that you made her mother feel embarrassed. He said he was sorry but he was getting a migraine. She said funny you should say that because her mother suffers daily from Migraines and if she had her choice she would like her daughter not to scream. he said he was sorry again and that his wife was a special ed teacher. Julie made him feel ashamed of himself for saying it loud enough for the other children to hear. She told him that he didn't know what it was like for the parents of these children. kuddos to Julie, thank you sista.
